View at Delphi, Greece

This is a painting of the view looking southwest from the outskirts of Delphi in Greece, where we visited in January 2020. Through the mist in the distance, past the olive groves, there are glimpses of the village of Kirra and the Gulf of Corinth.

Work in ProgressWork in ProgressModern Delphi is built on the slope of Mount Parnassus, with expansive views from many locations in and around the town. This view was found a short way down a small dirt road that leads dedicated hikers — eventually — to Kirra. Ancient Delphi, which the Ancient Greeks considered the "navel" or center of the world, is a ten-minute walk from this point. That is where the ancient Oracles of Delphi resided inside the Temple of Apollo to make their famous prophecies.
