These paintings are my attempt to capture the light and beauty of some of the magical places we visited in Greece during our visits in 2020 and 2023.
View at Delphi, Greece
April 2020 · Oil on board · 9" x 12"
This is a painting of the view looking southwest from the outskirts of Delphi in Greece, where we visited in January 2020. Through the mist in the distance, past the olive groves, there are glimpses of the village of Kirra and the Gulf of Corinth.
Work in ProgressModern Delphi is built on the slope of Mount Parnassus, with expansive views from many locations in and around the town. This view was found a short way down a small dirt road that leads dedicated hikers — eventually — to Kirra. Ancient Delphi, which the Ancient Greeks considered the "navel" or center of the world, is a ten-minute walk from this point. That is where the ancient Oracles of Delphi resided inside the Temple of Apollo to make their famous prophecies.
