This is a painting of St. Lawrence's Church in Birgu, Malta. We took a ferry across the harbour to visit Birgu (also known as Vittoriosa) during our trip to Malta in 2019. A small glimpse of the harbour can be seen between the buildings.

This church was built between 1681 and 1696 by the Knights of Malta, the religious and military order that controlled Malta for centuries. The church was heavily bombed during German raids in World War II, with the damaged portions reconstructed in 1949.

At center left in the painting there is a pedestal with a bronze bust of Dun Guzepp, an 87-year-old Maltese priest who died in 2007 after being run over by a van.
